Russia; Ukraine: Russia’s Defence Ministry said on Friday that its air defences intercepted 592 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones across 19 locations and the Black Sea between 8 pm Moscow time on Thursday and 8 am on Friday. Ukraine, meanwhile, reported intensive Russian aerial bombardments that caused multiple casualties across the country.
In Russia’s Perm region, Governor Dmitry Makhonin said 39 drones had been downed. An industrial facility was struck in the attacks, leaving one person dead.
In the Ulyanovsk region, Governor Alexei Russkikh said eight people were injured in a drone attack on the regional capital. The attack damaged industrial and civilian infrastructure, he said.
Samara Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said a passenger train was also damaged. The driver was injured, while passengers were unharmed.
In the Rostov region along the Black Sea coast, about 50 drones were destroyed, according to Governor Yuri Slyusar. An oil refinery was damaged and temporarily shut down, he said.
While Russia dealt with the reported drone incursions, Ukraine faced intensive Russian aerial bombardments that caused multiple casualties.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said in a social media post on Friday that air raids on the city had killed one person and injured nine others as of 10.28 am. The central Pecherskyi district was the worst affected, with seven people injured.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a social media post on Friday that eight regions, in addition to the capital, had been targeted in the air raids. The strikes killed one person in Odesa and caused further injuries in the Sumy and Mykolaiv regions.
During his address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, Zelenskyy said the approaching winter could be extremely difficult for Ukrainians. He also warned that Russia would face consequences, threatening retaliatory strikes on Russian energy infrastructure if Moscow continued attacking Ukraine’s energy system and heating facilities.
